Service starts

Once you picked your package and paid, your VPS provider will give you access to your dashboard. In this dashboard you can manage all kinds of features and config items for your VPS.

Your package will be build just like a self built piece of hardware. It is running but there is nothing there yet apart from power, processor and RAM, storage and networking, you have to create the server yourself. That means that you must configure your linux box by selecting the operating system image you want (that would be Debian 12, remember?). And when you press create or okay or whatever is there, the debian server will be created. That may take a minute or so and when that is done you find three pieces of information that you need:

  1. the IP address
  2. the login name (root)
  3. the login password

And that's it, you now have a full blown linux server in the cloud.

Next step is preparing it for your Yunohost experience.

Note about Windows servers

* Yes, you can build an internet server on a Windows VPS, but this guide is all about self-hosting using Yunohost and that requires Debian 12 as that backbone. Besides, Windows VPS's are much more expensive and they are BigTech backed systems, we don't do Bigtech…
